Lady Lazarus pt 2 (Halloween🎃)

Today in AP Lit, we read “Lady Lazarus” as a class and analyzed it together. Mr. Rease really made good points on the little details I missed the first I read the poem. Slyvia Plath has a really good way of connecting and expressing herself with her readers. I really enjoyed getting a look on the inside of Slyvia’s mind. I look forward to reading more of her work.

“Lady Lazarus” by Slyvia Plath

Today in AP Lit, we read and analyzed the poem “Lady Lazarus”. I assumed that the poem was about a women who attempted to commit suicide multiple times. The poem had a dark mood as you continued to read each stanza. We were also put into groups to analyze the poem together. Working on this poem as a group today was kind of a challenge. Everyone had different opinions, forcing us to compromise our answers. Overall, the play gave me a dark and suspicious mood to finish reading it.

“Mirror” by Slyvia Plath -my perspective

When I look into the mirror, I see huge brown eyes. Behind those huge brown eyes is a girl with much ambition, but one that also procrastinates. I see a wounded, but strong soul. I see a girl who is often offended, but still gives out love. Behind those huge brown eyes, is a girl who lives in darkness , but creates her own light to comfort her.

Mr. Rease was out Today (Monday)

☹️Mr. Rease was out today.

Being able to critique. (Friday)

Today in AP 🔥 LIT, we were able to critique our classmates body paragraph. My classmates decided that my group had the best paragraph and we had the highest number of points. Even though we had minor errors, we could still use more practice on creating a paragraph. Some things we should work on is connecting our evidence to our claim and connecting our claim to our thesis. Other than that, it was a good learning lesson on critiquing my peers work.

Making Claims as a Team (Tuesday)

Today, in AP Lit we were assigned to groups to come up with a claim that describes Troy’s ideal view of the world. My group decided that Troy’s ideal view of the world was “Maintaining Responsibilities”. We provided our claims with notable evidence from the text to create a full paragraph. We were also instructed to use an Umbrella Thesis statement, which was kind of challenging for me, but I soon after caught up with my group members. Being in groups today, challenged my team-building skills because I was able to listen to my group members for once and work together as a team to successfully construct our body paragraph.

The End of Fences 10/21/2019 (Monday)

Today, in AP Lit, we finished reading the play "Fences". The ending left my jaw dropped ,  because I was not expecting Troy to die. Mr. Rease asked us what were some important symbols from the play and I chose the fence. The fence symbolized many things throughout the play, but in my honest opinion, I felt as if it symbolized protection from then outsiders. Troy often bragged about him always paying bills and always providing, that the fence would symbolize things that were authorized by him. Such as: The house, Rose, Cory, and Gabe. Anything that entered that fence, Troy had control over it. Reading this book was a great experience and I'm excited to move forward to the next play or novel.

Absent ☹️

I was absent today

Identifying the Character

Today In AP Lit, we read more of the play “Fences”. Our objective for today were to identify what specific details reveal about a character. The character we chose today was Troy. Troy has no problem saying whatever comes to his mind but, when he is faced to tell Rose he’s having a child with another woman, he is at a lost for words. It was difficult for me to come up with a word that describes Troy in this particular act because he is out of his normal character. I’m am very excited to see what happens in the next few scenes tomorrow!

First Day of Second Quarter

Today was the first day of second quarter and we jumped right back into work mode! Today in AP Lit we annotated and took notes on our classmates essays. We were able to correct their mistakes and also learn from them. Correcting a peers work, helps one to avoid making simple mistakes and teach one to proof read before submitting their work.

Last Day of First Quarter

Today was the last day of first quarter. I am proud to say that I’ve made it through the first quarter of senior year. I’ve learned many skills in just these 3 months, and I’m sure there's much more to learn. I have 3/4 left of this race titled “senior year”, and I know that I will be well prepared for college.

Auburn University (Wednesday)

Today, Auburn University came to talk to us about the different programs they offer. The are claimed to be the #1 university for engineering. Their Criminal Justice program has a 100% acceptance rate for students who plan to go to law school. I really enjoyed listening to the recruiter.

What’s the difference between a “Man” and a “Boy”? (Tuesday)

Today, in AP LIT we read more of the play “Fences”. We were asked what is the difference between a man and a boy. Early on in the play Lyons asked his father, Troy, for $10. Then, Bono and Troy acknowledged Lyons as a “boy” even though he is 34 years old. They acknowledged him as boy because he has no job, but refers to himself as a musician. We came to a consensus that a “Man” should have a job/career, responsibilities, and be financially stable.

What is a “Fence”? (Monday)

Today, in AP Lit we started reading the play “Fences”. We were asked what is a “Fence”, literally  speaking and metaphorically  speaking. A fence is something that shows division or to keep something in or out (Literal). A fence can also be a person keeping the outside world away, or isolated themselves (metaphorical). I’m sure there is a deeper meaning behind the title “Fences” and I’m excited to dive deeper into the play.

The Yellow Wallpaper Quiz

Today, in AP Lit, we were given a quiz on the story “The Yellow Wallpaper”. We took the quiz as a team and we tried our very best. We were told to use the process of elimination method to figure out the correct answer. We did okay on the quiz, but hopefully we’ll redeem ourselves tomorrow. GO PACKERS!
