Essays

Today in AP Lit, we wrote essays. I think I could have done a bit better than I tried. One thing I need to work on more is paying attention to the time .

Celie and Shug Avery (Thursday)

Today in AP Lit, we practiced making a claim and a body paragraph. In this part of the color purple, readers can see Shug and Celie’s relationship become closer towards one another. Celie even explores her own body, thanks to Shug Avery. Shug is oblivious to Celie’s attraction towards her, which make their relationship more complex.

Mr. Rease ( Absent) (Wednesday)

Rease wasn’t here.

Blog Post: Pa’s Letter ( Tuesday)

Dear God, Why have you made me this way? Why must’n you fill me with lust for ma own kin? I reckon Celie don’t know no betta, that’s why I get to ha first. But, why God? You force my body to hers every night, now she don got two childs, and they mine God. Mine. What the church people gone say bout me. “Ole Fonso got a eye for his own kin” or “For them yung Gals”.  God, I told that Gal she betta not tell nobody but you, or I would beat her. It’s your fault, you made me do it.

The Color Purple( Monday)

Today in AP Lit, we read more of the color purple. The further we got along in the novel, I seen a shift in Celie, Shug Avery, and Mr.__. Celie and Shug are connecting more and more as Celie has to take Carr of her. Also, readers see another side to Mr.___ while Shug is around. Mr. is more vulnerable when he is around Shug. I still see the change in Celie’s grammar and vocabulary as we continue to read deeper into the novel.

The Results (Friday)

Today in AP Lit, we received our scores on the Fences essay. I received a 65% on my essay, which tells me I have a lot of work to do, if I want to pass the AP exam. We also got the chance to critique our peers claims. Doing this helped me observe mistakes in other people’s work so that I won’t make them for myself.

Letters to Celie(Thursday)

Today in AP Lit, we read more of Celie’s letters from The Color Purple. As we get more into the novel, Celie’s Vocabulary progresses. There’s a turning point when Sophia and Harpo get into a altercation because of Celie. Celie soon felt that she had sinned against Sophia in an act of jealousy.

The Color Purple (Wednesday)

Today in AP Lit, we started reading The Color Purple. So far the book is great. The book gives the reader details that the movie doesn’t show, and I found that very interesting. The Novel is written in letters, given readers a first person point of view.

Ben Johnson ...the poet (Tuesday)

Today in AP Lit, we answered questions about 3 poems we read today. My favorite poem I read today was Song: to Celia  by Ben Johnson. It is about about a man trying to tell a woman he likes her, but she ended up not feeling the same way. The gesture he made in the poem, by sending flower were cute, but quickly turned sad when I found out she sent them back. :( Overall the three poems were good, but that one was my favorite. <3

More Analyzing “The moon and the Yew Tree”(Thursday)

Today in AP Lit, we analyzed more poems. “ The Moon and the Yew Tree ” by Sylvia Plath was kind of a challenge. The syntax in the poem made it difficult to understand when I first read it, but after Mr.Rease helped us, it made more sense.

“You’re” by Sylvia Plath

Today in AP Lit, we read “You’re” by Sylvia Plath. This poem had a great amount of similes in them, that made me kind of confused at first, but when I decided to re-read it again I found some clarity. I took from the poem that the speaker was talking about a small or unborn child. The similes really gave the poem a mystery, making me even more interested in finding out what it was about.

Creating a poem. (Monday)

Today in AP Lit, we had to create a poem and present it to the class. The process for writing this poem was very stressful. I had no ideas popping up in my head, so I pretty much had to wing it. When it was 5 min left, I ended up writing a poem that was actually more than 14 lines. Safe to say, I literally was last minute on this essay.

Fences Essay

Today in AP Lit, we tested our writing ✍🏾 skills. We had 1 hour to write about a topic from the play Fences. This process was a bit of a challenge, but luckily I was prepared. I tried my best and I’m anxious to see what I made.
